Derek Jarvis Scholarship

We are pleased to announce the Derek Jarvis Memorial Scholarship Awards Program.  Derek was born on March 5, 1984 in Natchez, Mississippi. He was a proud graduate of Natchez High School where he excelled in sports and gained national recognition on the basketball and football field. He attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Tougaloo College, and was a 2017 graduate of William Carey University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. Derek was an avid sports fan and an incredible athlete who had a passion for mentoring young athletes. Through the local YMCA, various Community sports organizations, and his very own “Smooth Zone”, Derek had a powerful impact on all lives he encountered. 

Under the Program, three (3) $250 scholarships will be awarded with one to a graduating high school senior in each community below:

  1. Natchez, Mississippi, (2) Hattiesburg, Mississippi, (3) Waco,Texas

Program Guidelines & Priorities:  

  • Seeking graduating seniors with a record of volunteerism in the community in non-school sponsored activities
  • Participation in athletics
  • Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A short essay

Application deadline is Friday March 15th 2019 by 4:00 p.m. Late applications are not accepted.
